To be honest I thought special populations was only the meaning of disability children, but through my semester in my special populations class has made it even more clearer with our text book called Multicultural Education in a Pluralistic Society by Gollnick and Chinn. I learned so much about the diversity, children who are bilingual or other first language children they speak and different dialects from different race or country, exceptional children, and twice exceptional children. The suburban, urban and rural areas where children are and how it affects children in their education, which some of them Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. As a teacher I’ll respect each one of my students regardless of their ethnicity, culture or whether if my student is one of the LGBT community.  For me it was an amazing class because I acknowledge so much and it can help me to build my career towards becoming a teacher. My understanding of special populations hel

Youth culture and the Divide

Back in time there weren’t smart phones and the computers we have today. Some of the teachers grew up around where technology didn’t exist like today. The millennials or “me” generation were born between 1980 and 2000. “Millennials have grown with the ability to access people worldwide through their computers. Tablets, smartphones, and social media are everyday part of their lives” (Chinn and Gollnick). I’m one of the millennials, I was born in the year of 1990 and to be honest I have trouble with today’s technology. If you think about it yes, it’s a whole different generation, but as teachers we can find strategies to overall these lacks communication with their students . I believe the curriculum should be very interesting to get students attention. For example, according to Teaching Millennial Students “Integrate technology into your teaching. Millennials are the "wired" generation. Use technology to deliver your instructional plans -- include interactivity throu

Teaching Exceptional

Image
Exceptional students are referred as students who are gifted and talented or students that have a type of disabilities. “Exceptional children differ from the norm (either below or above) to such an extent that they require an individualized program of special education and related services to fully benefit from education” (Gollnick and Chinn 131). In a teacher’s career he/she will always face exceptional students in their classroom. It is important for a to respect an exceptional student. To have safe learning environment for an exceptional student. A teacher should address the types of exceptionalities there is to the other students in the classroom. This can have a positive outcome to where the exceptional student can feel safe, comfortable, and feel respected by the teacher and by their peers. To where the exceptional student will want to learn. It is the teacher’s responsibility to notice if some students are exceptional by looking through their records or by observing them

Sexual Orientation

Image
The LGBT community are more comfortable in public than back in the day. We see more LGBT couples getting married and  with a family of their own. Some parents don't explain to their children about different sexual orientations. My daughter watches a show on Nickelodeon called The Loud House, It shows that the main character has a best friend that has two fathers and that are very caring parents. He sees his parents as normal parents."Many governments fail to see the need to give specific attention to sexual diversity in education". This why I believe it's every school's and teacher's responsibility to discuss about different sexual orientations to their students. Students can understand and respect their LGBT peers and LGBT community, inside and outside the school. It can prevent LGBT students getting bullied in school."Diversity enhances social development". Back when I was in High School, boys and girls used the restrooms to fight because they t
